Chlamydiae are obligate intracellular bacteria causing mucosal infections. The leading agent Chlamydia trachomatis causes three clinical features in eyes: trachoma, neonatal, and adult inclusion conjunctivitis. A rare chlamydial conjunctivitis form called Lymphogranuloma Venereum can be venereally transmitted. Seldomly psittaci pneumonia may cause follicular Trachoma, the most sight-threatening eye infection, lead to approximately 6 million blindness worldwide. Classical trachoma is characterized by chronic keratoconjunctivitis, conjunctival scarring, pannus formation. According WHO at least two of following should present for diagnosis: Superior tarsal follicles, limbal follicles or Herbert Pits, typical scarring vascular pannus. These also supported laboratory findings such as organismal isolation humoral local antibody detection. treatment consists personal acute sporadic treatment, eradication disease, complication management. For personnel systemical topical forms Tetracycline, Doxycycline, Erythromycin used. oral Azithromycin a well-tolerated antibiotic. management complications surgical interventions scars. In spite developing hygiene standards control programs, still major infectious blindness.
